The Biggest Myths About Vaping

Although it is relatively new on the scene, the popularity of vaping has continued to climb, but not without the many myths and misconceptions surrounding it. These myths are due to the spread of inaccurate information about vaping. This has deterred many would-be tobacco smoking quitters from making the switch from cigarettes to e-cigarettes or vapes.

Let us look at some of the biggest myths surrounding vaping, and hopefully, this will serve to help those who are curious about making the transition to vaping.

Myth #1: Vaping Is the Same as Smoking

This is one of the most common myths about vaping, but it is far from the truth. Cigarettes contain tobacco as a key ingredient, which is a known carcinogen; cigarettes also introduce numerous toxins like arsenic, ammonia, carbon monoxide, tar, and other harmful chemicals into the body.

Myth #2: All Vaporizers Are the Same

Vaping devices generally fall into three categories, in line with their physical features and functionality. They are:

The Analog Lookalikes: These types of vaporizers are similar in size to traditional cigarettes. They are the cheapest and simplest to use devices, but they do not offer customization features. They only allow you to choose the type of e-juice used, but you cannot control the amount of nicotine released when you vape.

The Vape Pens: These are slightly bigger than the analog lookalikes but are still considerably small-sized and portable. Vape pens are great for a new vaper who is transitioning into vaping. They are easy to use and are great for the on-the-go vapers.

The Vape Mods: These vaporizers are mostly suitable for the experienced vapers as they are the most complex to use. However, they offer the most customization features. They are typically bulkier and are the most expensive options. Vape mods (as well as vape pens) are an excellent choice for those who are trying to quit smoking as they allow for more flexible customization of your vaping experience.

Myth #3: Passive or Second-Hand Vaping Is Harmful

Although the vapor released into the atmosphere while vaping may contain traces of nicotine, it cannot be considered as harmful as the toxic smoke released from cigarettes. While the traditional cigarettes contain carcinogens and other harmful toxins which can be passively inhaled by others, the vapor from vaping does not contain carcinogens or any known toxic elements.

Vaping Causes Cancer

While it is undoubtedly true that some vape juices and cigarettes share nicotine as a common ingredient, it is a fallacy that vaping is just as dangerous as inhaling cigarette smoke, although more research needs to be done to fully understand the subject matter. It is important to note that vaping has not been cleared by the FDA as an entirely safe alternative to smoking. The nicotine delivered from many vapes has been linked to lung disease and cardiovascular complications according to the American Heart Association. One benefit of vaping however, is that the amount of nicotine released can be controlled if you are using the right vape. The user can begin by using a medium to high nicotine output vape juice and gradually move to low, then finally to zero nicotine outputs. This slow and steady transition helps smokers avoid the painful withdrawal symptoms that come with quitting cigarette smoking cold turkey.

The above are only a few of the many myths surrounding vaping. Although more research needs to be conducted on the long-term impact of vaping, the truth remains that vaping offers a more personalized, less addictive, and healthier option compared to cigarette smoking.
